Greetings, Richardonians!

I checked the search thingamabob for this and did get a random-looking listing of people, but nothing as specific as I'd considered, which is---

A sort of DB of members, to include:

Name
Email/DT
Profession/Specialization
Age/Gender (this is pertinent for not only social strata but also- being in VN- the job market. Unlike provision of Law Stateside, they still have this delineated in job postings here, such as 'nu, 25-35t.' Out of fashion in the West, ageism/sexism still have a few strongholds.)
Area
Education
Experience
Pastimes/Interests
Shoe size (just kidding)

Richard has already started the work on this vis-a-vis his sign-in sheet and that nearly-impossible-to-reach laptop (see note on HC's seating clusterjam, earlier)- this takes the info gathered and makes a network DB of it for the cell group.

A search of eblog returned nil, save that overall list which directs us to folks' activity.

The idea of this is to allow quicker access to the immediate network.

I did it at California's EDD, and later we did it at our Census Bureau office.

We simply gather this info from subscribers and compile it into a spreadsheet (I choose xls, not xlsx, for operability on a greater number of devices).

The file is emailed to list members.

The rows/columns of cells can be ordered by each user per her/his needs at anytime, instantly searchable by parameter.

I suggest this because that potluck on exblog is nice if you've time, but those with whom you'll be speaking/meeting will probably more likely be local than in, say, Botswana(exblog's hierarchy itself is a little backwards- it could be country>feature instead of feature>country as it is now. I don't quite get the forum>asia>vn. People locate before they focus on activity there, usually). This list idea will narrow it down to your immediate contact group, instead of randomly meeting, maybe getting info, hearing that someone at the far end of Highland's impossible seating scheme does what you do but you didn't feel like trekking across people to meet him, etc.

Anyone can put it together, but I'm happy to if you get your info to me.

I promise not to sell it as California does your drivers license info, too!

Wow! Thanks for the photo updates  :) sorry I came at the very last minute.

Thanks for organising a gathering this Sunday. It was really nice to meet new people.
Nice photos.
Looking forward to the next event.

Hmmm... I'd like to post some pics but I don't know how to do it.

Hi,
You mention we can not meet up to Network - Please explain to me why we should meet up at Highlands Coffee if not for Networking?

Kasper- well put. While I haven't seen (or forget) the admonition, it does border on hilarity...
I admire Richard's initiative, while I find that something to VN is pervasive even among importees. I wouldn't have travelled- again- if I didn't like the place and people, but there is a vibe that's tough to crack. Such meets in the U.S. are all about networking. A lot of ideas we bring from background may just not make it here.

I like the loose-knit vibe. Not thrilled about the lesson platform (by one who really does know better, at that), but in the main the meet-ups are nice- if something meaningful within constructs of the group is done. The couple of guys who just had their own chat was funny- may as well have asked to speak to the majority types in Oakland, who by default shun anyone not their ilk. Maybe it was the flash mob setting they liked.

I did meet one person at the meet before who was very keen on followup- for about a day.

I think it's peachy that Richard makes such an adventure of it- even the after party.

Though in your making the observation/suggestion, having tried it myself... don't be surprised if you don't see overwhelming response.

Hi Everyone,

I am new here and planning to move to HCM city to explore the city. I am vietnamese origin but lived in UK all my life. Planning to go to vietnam after i graduate to do a tefl course and teach for a few months and participate in charity work. I came across this post, is the arrangement for everyone to join and make friends? i am going to be in vietnam from june 29th for a few months, i believe my training centre is in Go Vap so I'm keen to make friends before hand or learn experiences from people who have been in vietnam for a longer period of time.

Hello everyone, we have posted a new thread for our next gathering as below.
