Good local schools in Barcelona?

Hi there, we currently live in Buenos Aires and should move to Barcelona by June, if all goes well.
Our 4 and 2 year old are basically speaking Castellano (Argenitine style) and we really want them to pick up as much Spanish and Catalan as possible in the first few years there.

We visited a number of international schools, but since their home language is English we are not apposed to having them attend good local schools to make sure they get as much language exposure as possible. We can move them to an international school in early primary school years when what they learn and the curriculum becomes most important.

Any recommendations? And of schools that are not too Catholic driven?
Thanks SO MUCH in advance and looking forward to getting to know the community!

Welcome on Expat.com Lea Levy ;)

I hope that you will obtain some suggestions and addresses soon concerning the local schools around Barcelona.

Regards

Hi Lea.

I don't know if you still need this info, but just in case I  thought I'd post a few suggestions. I haven't got children so I'm not up-to-date with schools, but I am Barcelona born and raised, so I'm giving you some names of places that I know, schools my friends have been to, etc. I am assuming you're looking for a private school (not a "state school"). Most of the ones I'm listing are actually "concertadas" (mixed funding), non-religious, Catalan and forward-thinking... they are the ones I know! :-) Because of this, I think they are the kind of school for middle-upper class families, rather than upper class ones. I hope all this info makes sense...

So here are my suggestions, in no particular order:
Frederic Mistral (http://www.fundaciocollserola.cat/escoles/e_fm_esc.php)
Escola Thau (http://thaubcn.iccic.edu)
Isabel de Villena (http://www.villena.cat) - this is the one I went to! :-D
Escola Mireia (www.escolamireia.com)
Escola Projecte (www.escolaprojecte.org)

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help.

Regards.
