Safety in Fiji

Hi,

We would like to talk about a sensitive but important topic: do you feel safe in Fiji?

How would you define the level of safety in the country?

Can you walk safely during the day and at night without any fear?

Do you think there is a high rate of criminality, social problems or tensions?

Share with us your insight on safety in Fiji and in the city you live in.

Thank you in advance,

Christine

Hi,
I have been going to Fiji since 1980.  I have lived there since 2012.  I feel quite safe on the island I live on
but still would not walk around at night by myself.  In Suva I don't feel safe from some who would try to get
me to buy things from a shop they take me to.  I have heard rape has increased especially in Suva and
there seem to be drugs coming into the country.  There is an influx of a race of people that I feel is not
that trustworthy.  The Fijians are friendly but poor.  this leads to opportunism.

Fijian people are good people, you ask the question would I fill safe Yes in my travel over 35 years to south east Asia not one local has confronted me or gave me a bad time yet all the problems were started and created by westerns, I treat people like I want to be treat fair honest and respect, go bad to the bugging why would I be scared when they have neck harmed me .
