I flew to dubai a couple of weeks ago for vacation and rented a car there. I'm wondering if it is more cost efficient and enjoyable to drive, since I can stop in Abu Dhabi for a few days before I reach Dubai.
Is it better to fly or drive to the UAE?

Reaching by road to your destination is much more fun by any other means, subjected to that you have enough time up your sleeves to discover the new places !!

It all depends on what you plan on doing, if you are into road trip then by all means. Keep in mind that the drive can get boring as it's just sand across you.
IMO, flying and renting a car in UAE is much better option. A lot to explore in UAE compared to Saudi Arabia while being on the roads.
Seems like you are new to kingdom and already got the UAE bug
