AIRPORTS ON STRIKE...?

Hi William,

Driving home from work tonight, I thought I heard on the radio that TODAY (June 11) the AIRPORT workers in Brazil went ON STRIKE asking for better wages AND (I believe) some kind of bonus or something during the World Cup! Did I hear correctly?

If true, we all know it only spells one more disaste waiting to happen for the games.

I will drool in excitement. In fact two USA soccer team members have already been mugged.

In the local news they're reporting that airport workers in Rio'a Galeão, Santos Dupont and Jacarepaguá airports are on strike for 24 hours as of 00:00h Thursday. They claim that there will only be a 20% work stoppage, let's just see about that.

Cheers,

Striking workers blocked the road leading to Galeão (Antonio Carlos Jobim Int'l Airport) this is the traffic congestion that caused.

While they claim that they'll maintain 70% of staff working it still seems to be causing chaos, passengers arriving hours earlier than their flights to check-in allowing for the delays still were unable to check-in at the agent desks, nor were they able to do so through the Automated Check-in System.

Yep........... LET THE GAMES BEGIN

OMG. Though that picture actually looks an awful lot like a regular Friday afternoon rush hour HERE, but we're talking the World Cup and VISITING TOURISTS, PLAYERS and NATIONS after all!!!

All I can say is YIKES!

Right now just Rio and for 24 hrs......but stay tuned...the novella has only just begun. :-)
