I retired here 7 years ago, I would have gone to Austria, but here is cheaper and only a train ride to my favorite capital city of Vienna. Also, on my father's side we are Magyar/Szekely and I feel at home here. Language still a probelm as Hungarian is SO hard to learn!! Katalin
ETA And of course there is this: "Hungarian or EU nationals aged over 65 travel free of charge." Wonderful after the exorbitant travel costs in the UK.

Welcome to hungary, uhm belatedly:-)
I hope, after some years you also started liking budapest, not only vienna. Being home in the former, I did my high school and college in the latter.
It is good to know that the 'free travel' arrangement is a big plus for you - of course the country effectively wins by having you here (and kindly spending money coming from abroad).
And I am sure you have motivated a lot of locals to learn better english, and get UK know better...
