Emergency Medical for Cardiac issues

Will be traveling to Santa Mata and Cartagena. One of the people going with us has Cardiac issues.

In case of an emergency how do we care in Santa Marta and Care in Cartagena

What are the best hospitals or clinics for Cardiac care in Santa Marta and Cardiac Care in Cartagena

Is emergency travel to Barranquilla a better option if you are in Santa Marta

The most important thing is to get medical attention quickly. There are a number of centros de urgencias in both cities, and here are some web pages you may wish to keep handy that give their locations. In case of emergency I'd opt for the closest one timewise.

Thank you I will investigate, do not anticipate problems just want to be ready. What is the best transportation to use. Do they have emergency services like 911 calls in the US

Also, ask your hotel or lodgings what nearby hospital

or clinic they recommend .. and find out about

emergency transportation - ambulance service.

@PeteWattersChatsworth18 hello! In Cartagena the best hospital is located in Serena del Mar, and if you are in Santa Marta and have the oportunity to travel to Barranquilla the medical service is much better. The best one is Clinica Portoazul.

Better pay attention, had 2 relatives use the medical system in Sincelejo for brain trauma and prostate problems. Imagine that you have to take your lab samples to be examined with a 30 day time frame. I would go to Bogota.

Unfortunately your fastest transport may well be a taxi. My sister in law had her appendix rupture in Medellin and the hospital she was at could not perform the necessary surgery. It ended up that her doctor who was also a personal friend called a cab and accompanied her to the other hospital and insured that the was admitted and treated.

Hi Peter  -

I'm originally from Barranquilla but was raised in the States. I don't know much about the clinics in Santa Marta nor Cartagena, so I can't be of much help there. However, I would recommend Clinica Portoazul in Barranquilla. They are foreign friendly and well equipped.

You may want to check with your insurance for information about coverage oversees and reimbursement. Also, check the clinic's international patient process -- I believe it will likely be self-pay, and then you might get reimbursed when you return home.

The 911 equivalent in Colombia is 123.  I do not personally know of its effectiveness...it may or may not be a lifesaver.  It's Colombia, after all.

Pete,

we had reason to need an emergency centre in Santa Marta. My landlady suggested the El Prado Clinic in Santa Marta. It's at calle 25 and carrera 5 on your way into Santa Marta from Rodadero. It worked out really well. They were very helpful and we managed with google to navigate the translation issues. The young doctor we saw spoke pretty good English so that helped. Every thing was very efficient and they were very attentive and all worked out great.

A few things:

  • it was not a cardio situation so I can't speak to that.
  • They only take cash, and we had to pay 500,000 COP as a deposit at the start.
  • Be sure you contact your insurance company first to get their go ahead for what procedures can be done initially ( If possible)

I hope this helps
