My name is Benai. I am a Vietnamese born Australian/New Zealander hoping to further my studies abroad. Last year I took a gap year volunteering as an English teacher in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where I also had the opportunity to reconnect with my roots. For now, I am at home (or rather my current home) focussing on planning for my next journey. Feel free to message me for a coffee or a tour around Brisbane. I like to hear stories and meet interesting people. My blog: http://comeskismet.blogspot.com.au/
I joined expat.com on 27 December 2011.

First time experience away from parents and the security of "home". I set out to learn more about myself and my culture.
Vietnam is a real test of the senses: the drowning sound of the motorbikes, the heat from the close proximity of bodies, the smell of chickens being boiled, beef being stewed along the streets. Everything in Vietnam awakens the mind and one is left to feel truly alive.
Perhaps the extremity of everything - after some time the initial excitement became tiring. That's when I knew I had to leave.
