Transferring a motorcycle to Vietnam

Hi,

I'm interested in transferring a Ducati Monster 696 cc (42.5 cu in) from the States to Vietnam. Could someone let me know where or what I need to do to get this to go through?

Will the Vietnamese government let me transfer this bike over?
Do I have to additional taxes for bringing this bike to Vietnam? Please advice.

Thank you in advance.

I would recommend you come here first before you send anything that'll cost a lot of money over.  You'll need to travel on a rented bike around first to quickly realize that the road infrastructure as well as the driving behavior of locals is not conducive to fast travel.

Traffic lanes don't allow two-wheel vehicles in the "automobile" or the "truck" lanes.  They stick two-wheelers to ride on the very right side, or the shoulders, of the road.  The speed limit is 40 kph (25mph) inside city boundaries while it is 50 kph (31 mph) for motorbkes and 60 kph (37 mph) for motorcycles in the countryside.

I used to think the speed was way too slow but then I ran over a ton of potholes, nearly avoiding death from wrong-way motorists, cars parked on the shoulder, trash on the side of the shoulders, dogs running loose, dump trucks dropping stones in my face and people just stopping for no reason in front of me; I realized, yah, maybe I better slow down and follow the speed limit.

If you insist on transferring the love of your life over, then off the top of my head, I can only answer your question #3 -Do I have to additional taxes for bringing this bike to Vietnam? YES.  For importing cars, I definitely know there's a tax so I would assume that it applies to expensive motorcycles as well.

For some reason, I think the government discourages foreigners from bringing fast bikes over (so you can't outrun the traffic police).  I need to verify but I remember somewhere that they don't grant foreigners licenses to operate a two wheeler over 175cc.

Getting a motorcycle licence for 175 + CC bikes?
