Iqama Renewal for Dependent Son

i am 26 years old,and am under my father's iqama for the past 12 years. i am doing my MS in telecom  from KFUPM, Dhahran.
This year when my iqama went for renewal, my father was told that i would have to go on exit and return on the college's visa.

i have attached a letter from the college that says i am a bonafide student, which i did last year as well for the renewal.
i would be really grateful if you could tell me if it is true that i need to go back.
also, how much is the grace period after my iqama expires.

my iqama expires in a week, and I was told about this only today. :(

A quick response would really help.
Thanks
