Are penalties in Panama waived?

So I am a snowbird, who lives in Canada y Panama, and have no visa to Panama.  If we
Cannot leave Panama for our booked flight, on April 21st, and have to stay pass the
6 months, does anyone know if during this pandemic will Panama still penalize us
For over staying?  Some might say, go now, but that is not realistic in my situation, ie
Have a house here, I have to find a house manager still, plus my husband is over 70,
Does NOT have the virus, but his health is fragile, so he does not want to risk exposing
Himself right now.  We live away from people, stay home, go no where.
any insights???

This just started making the rounds - Nito Cortizo just posted this on Twitter: "Starting Sunday, March 22 at 11:59 pm, arrivals and departures of all international flights to our country will be suspended for a period of 30 days."

So, if true you will be spending more time here, which is probably a good thing because you sound pretty safe where you are. I would think penalties would be waved, but who knows. I believe in ordinary times there are fines for overstaying your visa, something like $50/month. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. But at worst, this might be what happens with you.

One time I was 3 days over, and I had to pay $20/day, which was not cheap for
My budget.  Someone told me to go to the panama migracion website, so I
Did, and asked the same question.  once in broken Spanish and once in
English, lol.  no idea if a) someone will read it, b) and/or reply,

I went to the Facebook group, Expats en Panama, with your question. Answers so far...

It's 50 a month typically. Not sure anyone knows how this will play out long-term.

If they lock you in, I doubt you could be held liable for their doing...

Yeah it's $50 per month you overstay

180 days? I thought the tourist visa was only 90 days?
Depends on your nationality. For US citizens, 180 day stay but only 90 days driving on your stateside license.

The current cost for each month you overstay is now $100. However, I think under your circumstances, like many others, it could be waived. Good question for the immigration office.
In Costa Rica, they have automatically extended tourist visas for 90 days for those who are still legal in the country (i.e. had valid tourist visas) at the time the decree was issued.

Thanks for your reply, Kristi, I did not know of the Facebook page for
Expats, I will try to find it.  it seems like this site has mostly run its
Course, as there is not much movement on it anymore.
In 2018, I over stayed 3 days, and I swear, I had to pay $60!!, lol.
So did it change to $50/month?  I don't know if I believe that, the
Immigration people at the airport, actually follow that??  They took
Away my passport, I had to wait in a small waiting area, then escorted
Downstairs, to the area for criminals, (well, at least felt like it, lol),
Then there were 3 people “working”, but not much going on.  After sitting there for a long time, observing that none of them were very
Busy, I got up from my chair, and as they saw that, they suddenly,
Quickly had the letter I needed, to go back upstairs, and pay my
$60.  I found a phone number for immigration/airport, 507-238-
4133, and a friend tried to phone for me, however he said this
Phone number is always busy.  I find Panama does that a lot to
Avoid responsibility.  They post “some number”, then when you
Phone it is ALWAYS busy, lol.  No, voice mail, no message posting
Hours, etc., just oh, well.  The longer I live here, the less I trust
The system, lol.
