Salary in Copenhagen

Hello ,

I am moving to Copenhagen for work . I currently live in Sweden. I had an interview with a potential employer who gave me details about possible employment . But there is one thing I am not yet sure of which has to do with Salary.  I am in the retail industry and here in Sweden you get paid by experience, I have over 15 years experience  . Now my potential employer is offering me 118 Danish kroner , though I haven't fully accepted the job , just going through the first phase of the job interview.  Now I spoke to a colleague who I worked with I Sweden, but now works in Copenhagen,  when I told him what the employer was offering especially when he works for the same retail company he said it's really low , that with my experience it should be round about 125 to 135 DKK, that the 118DKK they offering are students with 8hrs contract , and not for me who will be signing up to 38hrs contract. So please I need someone here to advice me on what to do regarding. I appreciate any advice yhats comes in . Thanks

It's the lowest pay for unskilled employees over 18 (if the employer has an agreement with a union).

You talk about working 38 hours? The normal working hours are 37, not 38.

I guess your colleaguea is the very best to advise you as he knows the company and your background.

Hello Nellie,

Thanks for coming to my rescue.  I called HK and I was told I need to be a member first before they could help , I understand that but I can't be a member without a CPR number but all good . I looked up the link you sent to me , I will be a shop assistant and it says I think 127 an hour . I asked a colleague but the thing is he a manager and maybe he don't want to disclose too much information to me but he did point out that the 118 is for students.  Do you know any union i could talk to that can give me the right information . Hope to hear from you again .

Thanks

Hi ,

Yes 37 and not 38 . I made a mistake .

Cheers

HK is the dominant union within the office and shop field. It's pretty costly to be a member of a union (442 kroner a month). My opinion is that they aren't worth the contingent. You can get an unemployment insurance without being a member 499 kroner a month).

Don't expect a union to give you any information if you aren't member.

I guess that your colleague will still be your best adviser. At least he has told you that the offered pay is too low, he has also suggested what he thinks will be the pay. I guess he is honest and realistic.

You may try these two pay calculators. I shall not say how good they are, but worth a try. As you'll see you have to distinguish between butiksassistent and butiksassistent (salgsassistent).

Hi there,

I was able to speak to my colleague he said I should be given 125 cause of my experience and also he gives contracts out to new employees and 118 should be for students. That link u sent to me really helped out cause it gave me an idea of what I should be paid . Thanks for all the help . What bank in Copenhagen offers the best service to customers,  in terms of low fees etc . You have any idea . Some folks said Danske bank , don't know how true that is .

Have a great day

125 kroner is absolutely better than 118 kroner. Let it be a start. Later you can ask your colleagues about the pay level. You don't have to stay in the same company for the rest of your life.

Mybanker.dk is a good site where you can find much information about banks, interests, get loan offers etc.

I would say that the big banks are the worst choice (Danske Bank, Nordea and Jysk). I cannot find just one advantage why to choose them . I use Almindelig Brand Bank myself (has a fysical filial) and Norwegian Bank. Whether the bank has a fysical filial or not makes no difference, as you can always get cash in the supermarkets which have become our 'banks' now. The normal is that you pay with your VisaDankort (all
banks issue VisaDankort) or with MobilePay (phone).

Thanks Neilie,  you have been off great help . Yeah 125 is okay for a start , then grow from there and you are right I don't need to remain at thesame company just somewhere to start. As for banks I will take my time to look up what you just sent to me. So where do folks go out to relax, meet people in copenhagen like hang out to hear good music . I prefer where grown folks hang out and not with kids. Are you danish ? If not how long u been living in denmark ? Do you like it

By the way, I also considered Coop Bank, mostly because of their fine Mastercard conditions.

Do become a member of Coop anyway. Many good offers.

I cannot help you much regarding socialising. I never go to Copenhagen, and now in my midseventies, going out isn't among my priorities.

Maybe, the people's house Absalon would be interesting, https://absaloncph.dk/en/ or Studenterhuset, https://studenterhuset.com/en/. I have been told that you also find adult people there.

I am danish, yes.

For real you in your mid 70's it don't feel like it , but that's good though. Will look up the link and all info especially about coop bank. Thank you so much for taking your time to respond to all my questions. Do have an amazing day. If I do have any other question I will send you a message. Thank you

You're always welcome.
