EU treaty rules

Good day.

I am an South African with duel citizenhip (French national) looking to relocate to Ireland. I currently work in the IT sector.

I would like to know what the rules are regarding EU treaty. As I cannot seem to find any clarity. Am I allowed to look for a job, while visiting Ireland on the bases of the 3 months I am allowed to stay there?

Also, my wife is an South African national and we have not yet been married long enough for her to obtain a French passport. Can we apply for a residency card ahead of traveling to Ireland?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Rene,

With your French citizenship, you're allowed to move to Ireland and look for jobs straight away. As for your wife, she will need to apply for EU treaty Rights(EU1 form) , providing that you, as the EU citizen is exercising EU Treaty Rights in the State (employed, selfemployed, residing with sufficient resources, studying or involuntarily unemployed).
Your wife  can enter Ireland with a tourist visa and then apply for EU1(which will be valid for 5 years) but you need to be exercising EU treaty rights as stated above on the 1st paragraph. This is the form:

I hope that helps you a bit
