Freesat

Would a freesat box work if you have big enough tracking satelite dish in Tripoli. Would it be along the same lines as picking up a Sky signal?

UK Freesat boxes won't work in Libya due to the encryption. But there are plenty of unencrypted decoders available here which you can use, and most of the Freesat channels are available on the Nilesat bird. It's not exactly Freesat, but it's still free...

Sky (using a UK Skybox), yep, but Libya is right on the edge of the footprint of the Astra (Sky) bird, so you'll need a big static (you don't need tracking) dish. Minimum 2.4m diameter.

Thanks again Sandman

Fecking well need something mate, 600 channels and only 3 of them in English, dish is only about 1.5m so that could well be the problem, will be in touch re lunch and will discuss then ;)

Clansman,

Another option to get additional English channels is to get your receiver programmed for Thor satellite (2-3 LD) It's a very cheap option for additional english channels.

How could we get the UK channels, like ITVs and BBCs and stuff like that? Missing loads of English programmes and soaps.:(

I've also recently heard of an internet based TV channel service. Same sort of thing as in the UK where you could get a flashed decoder and enjoy all the premium channels on NTL free of charge ;)

There are Literally thousands of channels of live games and other mind-bleaching soaps etc. This probably works ok where you can hook into the cable network (where it exists...) but I can't see it working out in the sticks :(

Sandman6 and all the group,

Do u watch the UK channels in Libya and how?

Not the domestic UK channels.

We mainly watch the South African DSTV network on the C band PanAmSat 7-10 bird with a 2.4m dish. Through this we get:

Sky News
BBC World
BBC Lifestyle
BBC Entertainment
Plus loads more

There's a few more also available on the Nilesat Ku band, which is easy to get with a 90cm dish.

Use a dual LNB decoder to get both satellites at the same time.
