Driving license in Scotland

Hi all,

Can a foreigner take the driving test in Scotland?

What are the formalities to get a driver's licence in Scotland?

Do you need special or extra documents being an expatriate?

How much does it cost?

Thank you for participating ;).

If you check out the DVLA website, many countries have reciprical arrangements with the UK to exchange your country's driving license for a UK one.  I have done this with my Ontario, Canada one.  Not a problem at all.  Went into the DVLA office in Glasgow with the form I ordered off the DVLA website, paid  £50 plus a £4 extra to have my passport checked without having to send it to the DVLA HQ in Swansea Wales.  They took my Canadian driving license and have issued me a UK one.  Only drawback is that a Canadian license does not indicate if you did your driving test on a manual or automatic transmission, so they will only give me a license for an automatic transmission car.  If I want to drive a manual, I will have to take the manual transmission road test, but you don't have to do the written test.  It is recommended you take a few refresher lessons before taking the manual transmission driving test though.

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you need more information.
