Shipping household contents vs buying new

Any South Africans out there...need your honest advice on this one. Is it worth it to ship a 20' container with basic furniture to Australia, or would it be better to buy furniture and household appliances on arrival? I will leave a house furnished here in SA and only take special pieces of furniture. I have a   4 year contract with possibility of renewal so there is a possibility of returning to SA. Also has anyone shipped a motorcycle and trailer? Are there any pitfalls to bringing these items.
Thanks
Jenni
