Healthcare in Lithuania

Hi,

how does the healthcare system work in Lithuania ? Is it efficient ?

What are the main differences between public and private sectors?

Is it recommended to purchase private health insurance in Lithuania?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience !

Julien

Hey,

Health system in Lithuania is high quality, but there are some public secrets like coruption. I highly recommend go directly to private hospitals. It will cost more, but you can save a lot of time and avoid stresful situations.

If you are working your company pays for your health insurance. If someone have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you minde for your contribution :)

the public health care is quality, the doctors and nurses care about you. i discovered this when i had my gout out there. i thought i got great treatment because of connections (like minde says). then my brother had a heart attack there...A1 treatment...only thing is he didn't have his ehic card but that was sent later and everything was alright. i can't say anything about private. beware, the outside of buildings can be deceiving..old, falling apart but in the doctors cabins, they're looked after. equipment often still is old soviet stuff but remember...in soviet days, it was in the state's interest you were back on the road as soon as possible...so the stuff works!! yes, they do have modern equipment. if you could take an Lt. medical person to the west, they'd be shining stars. there's just a lack of state funding...bribery, corruption. . .the list goes on!

All these hospitals are located in Vilnius. Sorry, but I don't know anything about other cities.

As well I highly recommend visiting city of SPA and other healthy things Druskininkai: www.druskininkai.lt
