Cardiff Talk

Hello Fellow Celts.  I'm a Scot living in California, working on a book whose first chapter is set in the Rhondda in the 1860s. I need some help with dialogue. One of my characters, Tomas Wide the Temper, says "I wish you had never gave him that book."  That's my guess at how an uneducated Valley man would say it. Am I right? Any alternatives?

My book is fiction based on a true story. In style I've gone for somewhere between Alexander Cordell and Barry Unsworth, with an occasional humble gesture towards Dylan Thomas. Can't tell if I'm succeeding;   I'm not nearly as good as any of those guys, of course.

Hope someone can help.

Re: Cardiff Talk

'I wish you'd never give im tha book' would be my guess as to how it would be said. That is said from an educated Cardiff lass though....

Re: Cardiff Talk

To be honest I think what you said originally is fine.

That's what I would probably say and I'm from Port Talbot
