I'm an expat in Singapore that's been here since 2006 working in high technology, financial management, and real estate arena. Lot's of changes in Singapore over these years; some helpful to expats and some not so helpful. With so many changes in local politics and the market, there are things the expats need to do to take back some of their market power. The day of limited housing supply is over and people need to stop getting taken advantage of by the local property agents and landlords. Spend some time negotiating your leases for housing, cars, and other big ticket items. Expats pay what we call the "Expat Tax", which is over paying due to lack of knowledge and not knowing how to play the game with the Asian mindset. Do your homework and stop getting taken advantage of. Collectively we can stop the madness.
