Im from Chicago. I initially came to Cambodia on a whim after spending a month in Vietnam. I had no clue how much Cambodia had to offer beyond Angkor Wat and quickly realized that 3 days wasnt nearly enough time. I traveled extensively, but couldnt shake the feeling that I needed to get back to Cambodia. I returned for one month, then two and now, over three years later, Im still here and consider Siem Reap my permanent home. Its a great country to explore and (for me) the perfect home base. From here I can easily visit other countries that I love and the many others that Im looking forward to seeing. Most of the expats Ive known have since left the country and the majority of my friends are Khmer. I love them dearly, but I often miss speaking the western English that comes from sharing a point of reference.
