Study in Singapore

Singapore provides various curriculum within many prestigious schools and universities, and the country constantly seeks to promote its quality education system by attracting talented students from all over the world. Partnerships were thus established between higher education institutions from Singapore and foreign schools and universities from abroad such as the famous  M.I.T. or the Polytechnic school in Paris.

Studying in Singapore implies a good knowledge of English, language in which courses are mainly held. Upon registration with a higher education institution in Singapore, you will probably need to provide satisfactory T.O.E.L.F or I.E.L.T.S English tests scores. Note that language tests requirements may vary from one university/school to another, and it is up to you to check basic requirements with the institution that you have selected.

How to register with a higher education institution in Singapore?

In order to register with a higher education institution in Singapore, it is necessary to have satisfactory scores to one of the above mentioned English tests, and be holder of a secondary school diploma or equivalent (“International Baccalaureate” or equivalent). Once the university of your choice selected, you may have to take additional entry tests in mathematics, English or any other subject in connection to the desired curriculum in Singapore.

If successful, you will be in a position to register with your university/school, provided that all eligibility criteria are met; your institution of higher education in Singapore will first issue an "offer of placement" then a "letter of acceptance" that you will need to provide at the time of your student visa application ("student pass").

Applications for student pass must be submitted online via the S.O.L.A.R. system (“Student's Pass Online Application”) at http://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/. Fees of SGD $30 apply for the visa.

If your student's pass application is approved (you should receive a notification within ten days), you will have to collect your student pass at the Visitor Services of Centres Immigration and Checkpoint Authority counter directly in Singapore with all necessary supporting documents.

 Important:

In order to collect your student pass, you may be required to apply for an entry visa for Singapore. Check with the embassy or consulate of Singapore in your area.

Student pass application procedures may sometimes differ depending on the type of establishment foreigners intend to study at (private schools, public schools, polytechnic schools, universities etc.) For more information, visit the I.C.A. (“Immigration and Checkpoint Authority”) website at http://www.ica.gov.sg/services.

Tuition fees apply in all universities, schools or establishments of education in Singapore, even in the public system where a financial participation is required. Tuition fees may turn out to be very expensive but loans, scholarships, grants or financial aids are available. For more information, contact your higher education institution in Singapore or contact the embassy or consulate of Singapore in your area.

 Good to know:

Foreign students under a student pass status are allowed to work up to 16 hours per week during term or full-time on holidays.
