Our journey in search of a new life with less work and more fun. A gentle life...from the "Gentle Island" of PEI to the mountains of Ecuador and beyond.
Hi There! I've been writing the blog for more than two years. It is an honest look at our lives as expats on Ecuador's coast. It describes everything from budgeting, shopping, transportation, culture and glitches adjusting. Photos and videos too as well as reports.
Follow along as I experience the highs and lows of life as an expat in Ecuador. Journey with me on my travels through my new home country and then as I explore greater South America. Learn from my experience just as I have learned from countless explorers before me.
I lived in Quito for about 9 months and traveled the country extensively. There are a wealth of posts about daily life, food, and the unique aspects of living in Ecuador. There are other posts about traveling in Peru and Chile, as well as living in San Francisco.
Jungle is a vibrant part of Ecuador, which is the beginning of what separates this country from many others. It is not the only thing by far, but it's a good start. Cuyabeno River Basin Reserve is one of those areas protected, to a degree, as an ecological and environmental treasure of Ecuador. Sadly, the oil deposits that lie underneath are a constant temptation for those charged with it's protection. Just 45 families stand between conservation and plunder. Those who "own," or on record have title to this land, but what happens if they leave or die out? Can others move in? Good question. This area is so rich in wildlife and all the elements that provide Oxygen, with the lush foliage that thrives in this jungle environment. The lifestyle for the inhabitants is simple by comaprrison to city life.
