    Dear Sir,

I am working at Saudi arabia. Recently I got visit visa for my mother and has been stamped now. I told by my travel agent that my mother has to travel to saudi arabia within 30 days from the time of stamping. Now my vacation return date has been changed. It requires atleast 50 days time for my mother entry to saudi arabia. My question is whether my mother can travel on the same stamped visa or require new visa. I would appreicate your reponse to this post.

I have completed my B.tech in computer science and engineering in 1999 and i have 8 years experiece as system administrator.
I got offer in saudi as a system administrator in a good company through some consulting company in saudi.
type of job is global contract and initially valid upto 1 year later it will be renewed.
I came across through many friends and your blog that certificate attestation is required to get work visa in saudi and in my case there is no certificate attestation done but i get entry visa which is valid for 90 days and designation mentioned on this visa is air condition technician.
my query is : am i eligible to bring my family on aircondition technican, is attestation required now to get family visa.

My present iqama profession is CARPENTER. and I am working as an Executive Secretary in a construction company. Now they are asking me to change kafala. They have offered me family status, annual vacation, vehicle etc. As far i have checked ur blog, i came to know that carpenter is not able to bring family, also admin positions are for Saudi nationals. Can i change my profession from carpenter , also, i know most admin staffs working here are expats. If my profession can be changed, can u suggest in a construction company, which profession can i bring family.

Hello, i have just started searching the net on information about working in saudi arabia. I felt the information provided on this was very informative. I am a practising muslim Doctor married to a hindu Doctor. We are both being offered jobs at Saudi. Before accepting the offer i wanted to clarify the religion issue of ours. I know Saudi is a muslim country with their laws, will it be ok if we take a job together and stay together since we both follow different religions.
Will this be declared in our documents and will it affect our work and stay in Saudi as i think this is not permissible in the Saudi laws. I shall be looking forward for your information before taking a decision. Thanking you in anticipation.

Dear Guruji. i am really very impressed with your answers to the questions here. i am hoping you can help me as my case is one of its kind and i am in a real mess.i came to saudi arabia in March 2007 on an electronic engineers visa.after i reached here i was sent to work in Arar central hospital as engineer.as my company is based in riyadh i had to send my passport to riyadh for iqama.i would call them almost everyday for the iqama but to no avail.even the ministry of health and governors office knows about the issue as i have complained to all the offices there. The company was finally blacklisted and hence they couldnt get my iqama issued from the authoirities.please advice me as to what i should do to get out of this mess.can i get a transfer to another company so that i could get the iqama. i have been like this for over two years already.i am suffering for no fault of mine.is there any way for me to get my iqama or to go out of saudi on exit and return on some other visa.please help me as i dont know where to turn to

  • Expatguru 04 May 2009 18:56:14

    Debra,

It is impossible to bring them on a family visa as they are all above 18. However, your daughter alone could be brought on a visit visa. Your sons cannot be brought as they are considered, under the eyes of Saudi immigration, to be potential job-seekers as they are male and over 21 years of age. Sounds illogical, but that's the way the system is. Unfortunately, this is the way of life. Good luck!

  • Debra Crary 04 May 2009 15:43:14

Love the blog and I hope you can help me. It's a little tricky!!!!I (U.S. citizen)am working in Riyadh at a university and have my husband (Mexican) here as my dependant. I have three children: a single daughter 27, two sons 23 and 20. My sons and daughter are completing their studies this summer in Mexico and wish to join us here on a family visa. It is absolutely impossible to live in Mexico with the violence and current economic crisis. There is really no where else for them to go. Although they are no longer minors, can I get a family visa for them so they can stay with us indefinately? If so, how would I go about it?

    Assalamualykum,
Dear reader I have tricky situation here, I will best try to explain it.
Well, I had been to Riyadh (KSA) in 2006 on Visit Visa for a project.
I had got an offer with Riyadh Military hospital and they had converted my Visit Visa to Working Visa and given me Iqama under there sponsorship.
Later in 2007 November I planed to leave this company, I had many good offers but the issue was this company being a ministry didnít want to release me.
So having no solution out I had to plan for my vacation and not coming back.
Now I wanted to go back to Riyadh but not working with the same company.
    I have a valid exit re-entry visa.
I wanted to find out will it be possible to reach there on this visa and convert it.
    Or
Can I get a visit visa irrespective of holding a valid exit re-entry.
    Thank you.

    Dear Expat Guru,
My wife will come to KSA with a visit visa. Is it possible to convert a visit visa to family visa? Thanks.

  • Expatguru 20 February 2009 18:47:16

    SB,

As per the latest rules of the Saudi Consulate in Mumbai, Indian nationals can return for work without an NOC immediately if there is an exit visa. In case there is only exit/reentry visa, they can return after one year. In your case, you can return without an NOC anytime after the end of April, 2009. Good luck!

  • SB 20 February 2009 10:41:04

    Dear Expat Guru,

I came across your blog and found it very interesting. Really appreciate your sincere efforts in providing valuable and up-to-date info for expats of saudi arabia.

Please advice me on the following:

    1) I returnted to India on a multiple exit/re-entry visa from Saudi Arabia on 27 December 2007.

2)Visa is valid till 28 Apr 2008 and iqama is valid till 26.04.1429 H.

3)Could not return due to medical emergency in the family and informed company accordingly.

    4) Company's management and partners changed thereafter.

    5) Have an offer on hand from a new company. But agent is insisting on NOC which could not be obtained inspite of best efforts to contact the old sponsor thru mails - faxes and personal telephone calls.

Is there any way to go to Saudi Arabia on a new visa?

Under the circumstances, how long does the restriction apply to go back to saudi arabia?

    Thanking you in advance,

    SB

please,if you have information basic salary for operator boiler position in saudi arabia, thanks

  • expatguru 30 January 2009 06:50:56

Z, until recently this was possible. The labor office has recently drawn up certain regulations by which a person not having a job matching with his background would not be allowed to work that way. For instance, in Nayeem's case, he is on a painter visa but wants to work as a software engineer. He has purchased a visa hoping that some employer would take his visa, provide him a job and thereafter he can even bring his family. The labor office has now put an end to this practice. Among the professions barred from even being transferred are labor, painter, barber, secretary, operator, etc.

  • Z 28 January 2009 16:30:56

Guru why cant Nayeem transfer his iqama?

  • Expatguru 28 January 2009 11:56:30

    Nayeem,

You may probably get a job here on this visa, but it is impossible to bring your family or to transfer it.

  • shaik Nayeemuddin 28 January 2009 10:39:16

    Hi,
I am nayeem.I purchase Painter visa but i am Software Engineer, I completed My MCA and i have 3 Years of Experience please help me May i hunt job there by holding Painter Iqama.
Is it Transferable Iqama or not,
plz help me by giving your Suggestion.

    Bye

  • Z 27 January 2009 11:06:35

Hey Guru, I have a valid Iqama but I want to know the contact details of my sponsor. Is there any website where I can enter my personal details and get his contact information? if not, can you recommend any other way?

    HI EXPATGURU,
I NEED YOUR ADVICE AS TO HOW TO OBTAIN THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE OF MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS BORN IN RIYADH YAMAMA HOSPITAL IN THE YEAR 1995!!!. I HAVE RECIEVED THE TEMPORARY SLIP FROM HOSPITAL THEN & BASED ON THAT I HAVE OBTAINED THE BIRTH NOTIFICATION CERTIFICATE FROM INDIAN EMBASSY RIYADH. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS WOULD BE ENOUGH BUT NOW UNDERSTAND FROM FRIENDS THAT I NEED TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL ARABIC BIRTH CERIFICATE FROM THE GOVT AUTHORITIES HERE. I AM NOW POSTED IN DAMMAM. GURU, WHERE DO I START?I ASLO HAVE THE COMPLETED VACCINATION BOOK ISSUED FROM THE HOSPITAL.

  • Expatguru 28 December 2008 13:58:54

    Thomas,

You will have to submit your present iqama, passport of your kid, birth certificate issued by the Ministry of Interior, 2 passport size photographs of your baby and one photograph of your wife along with your baby and an introduction letter from your sponsor in Arabic. Submit all of the above through your Government Relations Officer to the Passport Office who will then issue a new iqama. Also read the following link:

    http://workinginsaudiarabia.blogspot.com/2008/11/child-birth-in-saudi-arabia-2.html

    Hope this helps.

Hi there..expat guru..you have been great with your answers and are quite knowledgeable. Thank you. Despite that, I disagree with the last comment you made about expatriates not reaching management level. True, that arabs are in higher positions and are even preferred in positions of senior management level but this is not true in all cases. Expatriates are well placed in absolutely brilliant management level positons with awesome packages. Some get paid even as high as 80,000 SR ($ 21,000) per month. My father himself being a Pakistani, holds a National Position for the Kingdom and same is the case for many others. Therefore, I would not fulyl agree with your last comment.

    Thank you

  • Hassan 15 July 2008 11:20:29

Thank you for your reply. Sponsor has agreed to convert the temporary work visa. I inquired about the procedure which he did not explain. Are you aware of the procedure? If yes can you please let me know so that I can follow up at my end. Thanks!

  • Expatguru 15 July 2008 08:19:24

    Omar,

Having an MBA hardly matters in the Middle East. Almost all the managerial positions are occupied by Arabs, so as an expatriate you have no chance of reaching any management level. What matters here is your job knowledge and experience. You may wish to have a look at this link

  • Omar Nokaly 14 July 2008 17:07:57

    Hello All,

My name is Omar Nokaly and my email is OmarNokaly@gmail.com I am currently a civil engineer working in the USA. I am going to pursue my MBA and wanted to eventually land a job in the Middle East getting paid a competitive salary to what MBAs get in the USA. I have been accepted into Stern (NYU) and Zicklin (Baruch College). Will the Stern MBA open up many more doors for me in the middle east than Baruch College or are both MBA's comparable. Will NYU be worth an extra $40,000??? Please advise, thanks

  • Mohammed Rafi 07 July 2008 14:56:02

I am working in the Kingdom since 8 months. Now I got a better offer from another company. My sponsor is ready to give me exit only without NOC. I wanted to know can i make a comeback after exiting from Saudi Arabia.
Is there any duration that i have to spent in my home country.

  • Expatguru 05 July 2008 11:11:04

It depends on your sponsor whether he will convert it into a permanent one or not. Check your contract before signing. Converting to permanent visa will normally take about 1 month (if it is not Hajj or Ramadan season). To sponsor wife and kids, it will usually take about 45 days. Check the blog www.workinginsaudiarabia.blogspot.com for more details.

  • Hassan 03 July 2008 06:19:07

My sponsor is getting me to Riyadh on a Temporary work visa. What are the chances that this visa will be converted to Permanent Visa (Iqama) and how long will it take?

How long does it take to sponsor wife and kids once you are given an iqama?

    Thanks
