After twenty-five years in France, this blog is my attempt to explore the mysteries of my adoptive country. I'm especially interested in education, ecology, unusual trends in French society, and English language writers working in France.

I grew up in Arizona and now live near Paris. After twenty-five years here, I am interested in really understanding France. I write about French education, ecology, health care, food, parenting, writing. I am also keen on writing and publish a newsletter for English language writers in France called Paris Writers News. Two of my books have been published, "Sorbonne Confidential" (about my disastrous attempt to become an English teacher) and "Les Rêves Barbares du Professeur Collie" (a novel which asks the questions "can you love your job too much?" and "where does history come from?"). Both were published in French by Fayard. My favorite literary hero is Moses Herzog, who writes letters he never sends, often to dead people
