How much does it cost to live in Syria?


I LIVE IN DAMASCUS

> accommodation prices (i paid 35,000 Syrian Pounds per month or USD700 for a two bedroom flat), but you can find 8,000 SP in suburb

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)
cheap minimum pay to micro van/bus is 10SYP

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)
150 USD for a month

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> education prices (if you need to pay)

In Damascus

accommodation prices
you can rent a room in a traditional Damascene house in the old city for 200-300$ like forign students usually do and share kitchen and bathroom, or you can have a flat for 300-400$.
   
public transportation fares
Inside Damascus it would cost 10 S.P = 20 cents

food prices(per month)
Almost 15000 S.P = 300 $

health prices (for those who need medical insurance)
Emergencey cases are treated free in public hospitals but it's not 5 stars service, though Syrian dentists are the best in the world and it is relatively cheap.

Cheap when compared to neighboring countries,and super cheap next to Europe

Internet 1 hour in an internet cafe costs less than 1$ television it is not common to have a cable but satallite is available with a furnitured accommodation

In Damascus there are so few good cinemas it costs 5-6$

anyhow, cost of living depends on your style of living

I nearly immigrated to Syria about 5 years ago and it was pretty cheap living then. It looks like the prices of accommodation and stuff have went up but you could still have a good quality of life in Syria. There was may factors to why I did not immigrate. One thing i noticed is that is hard to get International expat health insurance for British people. I don't know why but my provider would not cover me at the time.

I want to visit Syria soon and need some  info on buying property. How much for an apartment in Damascus suburbs ?

buying property !! actually its so expensive, Damascus is the 8th most expensive city in property. u need about 3 million syp to buy a small apartment in Damascus suburb but u can rent apartment with acceptable price about 10,000 per month
