ARTISTS, MUSICIANS AND THEIR MALAGASY STORIES

Expats are the vectors and the channel of Malagasy artists to the outside world since we have a privileged link with the society that we share with the Malagasy people and can also share with our citizens in the country of our birth. We are fortunate to have a foothold in two different worlds. It is important that we understand Malagasy arts and music to share our common soul with the Malagasy people in the same sense that we share our humanity. We must bring to life the arts, culture and customs that are expressed in the arts and music of the Malagasy people. If this is lost to the world, then we are diminished as a human race.

A musical tradition, also practiced in sacred rituals, this improvised way of singing takes on the air of griots. We can distinguish the "hataka", the "rombo", the "lamalama" ...

There are many different kind of Malagasy musical styles, but musically, Beko (from the South) and Vako-drazana / bà gasy (from the Center) are the most interesting according to me as they require much more technicity (vocaly or with instrument).
