It is difficult to say as there has been no census for a long time. Also there is a legal issue going for years regarding the declaration of your "religion" during the population census. However, according to the Telugu Maha Sabha there must be between 25,000 to 50,000 telugus in Mauritius.

Around 40 000 to 50 000 ppl are descendants of Telugu immigrants. While many of them follow the ethnic culture, very few can speak in the language. Telugu is taught here as an optional language just like other Indian languages brought by immigrants.
