El Dia posted this article on the Nipah virus in recent days:

Here is the BBC World rather than BBC Mundial article used to get yourself up to speed on another potential future virus problem:

What's Nipah? Made me investigate a bit more.......
Fruit bats are everywhere in DR and I doubt if there is much research going on, so perhaps transfer from bat to human of the viruses they carry can happen in places other than Asia - hope not on a large scale.

Not enough research is happening to understand the extent of infections being spread by bats including Nipah. Rabies and Dengue are spread by bats in the Caribbean...what else?

The problem is a probabaly human one, where we are encrouching on the bats habitats and there is the risk of spread from bat droppings and urine to livestock and fruit juices being collected.

I guess we should be glad there is more focused research happening now because of Sars-Cov-2 into other potential viruses which could cause the next pandemic.
