KL job offer

I have an offer of a 3 year contract in KL, with 60,000 gross pay per month + car and health care. We have 2 kids and would want to live in a 3 bedroom condo in Mont Kiara. Is this salary enough for a good standard of living in KL, whilst wanting to save money.

Any advise is appreciated.

Yes it's plenty and a good salary. It would be even better if the company paid for your children's education. Your rent might cost Rm4k - 5k per month, cheaper is possible and more expensive too depending on which condo you choose to live in.

If that is excl school fees then with 2 kids can be rather hard to say.  Fees of 8 to 10,000 RM per month per kid is high end fees for exam age kids. 2 at the best school pre-U is 20,000 RM per month gone. Still you would be able to live well enough.

If you mistakenly meant 6k a month or 60k a year then run away!

Yes, you can comfortably live within that salary. your rental expenses are between 5k-10k, need to spend on grocery, kids school fees and other expenses so your expenses can reach around 20k. if you want to save money you need to purchase things on online and apply discount coupons ****

Hi there,

There are two very good international schools in Mont Kiara - Garden International School and Mont Kiara International School. Both are in the top 5 most expensive in the city.

If you don't have school fees included in the package, then you will likely be spending at least 15,000RM a month on school fees (for both, based on 80k a year each for fees) if you choose one of those schools. In addition, be aware that start-up fees for schools are high and you will need to pay registration and application fees + deposits (one term's fees) for each child before they even start.

Rents in MK are expensive and to live near either school you will probably be looking at 7k (absolute minimum) to 15k depending on the size/condition/location of the property you choose.  Still, even if you went higher end here you would still be left with roughly half your income each month which is plenty to live on & travel with!

If you'd like more info on schools, feel free to send me a PM.

do keep in mind income tax which is around 26%
