Most of them are self employed and salesperson. They sell online without an e-commerce site, via facebook posts, fb messenger and a cup of coffee. It's called SOCIAL SELLING.

Ladies do the same either at cafe or from home.

If the answer is yes, then the person is counted as employed. It doesn't matter if the job is temporary, doesn't pay enough to cover grocery and has no benefits, if it happened in the past two weeks, then  the person is marked down as employed.

In Vietnam, anyone who can work can find a way to make money.  Open up a coconut, pour the juice into small plastic bags, sell them to beachgoers, that's a job.  Boil raw peanuts and sell them at rest stops, that's a job.  Three unemployed adults helping their parents in the farm, that's 5 people with jobs.  An old woman selling fruits from the back of a bicycle had her granddaughter pushing the bike and wrapping the fruits, that's two people with jobs.  Selling food at the market is one job, but having your young one coming after school to help, that counts as two jobs.   

That's why the official unemployment rate of Vietnam is very low.

There are plenty of women sitting at coffee shops before work, after work, and during working hours.  You must pay attention to local hangouts and sidewalk cafes -- some of them opens 24/7, with the most famous of them all only closes 30 minutes a year at Giao Thừa (Tết's Eve).  The gender ratio is almost equal at those places.

Some coffee shops that has a TV on the wall and with only male customers are illegal betting places, the Vietnamese answer to sportsbook.

Hey I like the first bit of your post but I am not a novice here in Vietnam (12 years lived here) & know the score & no way the gender ratio at the coffee shops is almost equal, more like 20 male to 1 female & thats a fact! certainly round where I have lived & live now.
