LEGAL ENGLISH IN CAMBODIA

Good morning

Originally from South Africa, but been living in London for 25 yours.

I did a BCOMM, LLB and was in corporate for a while working around the world in corporate audit, then had enough of that and  started my own business between London and Asia.

I have done the TEFL and  am just about to do a LEGAL ENGLISH course, and would  would like to teach foreign lawyers how to speak Legal English and perhaps specialise in some legal work in Cambodia. Obviously i can also attempt to get a job in corporate audit IT risk management but not sure what there is out there for that...

I am hoping to come out in about 3 months time........

Any help, thoughts, experiences would be greatly appreciated

Hello Mark.

Just as a reminder, in Cambodia Khmer is the language and any official document, meeting, decree, declaration is in Khmer language.

Even often there is the requirement to translate documents into Khmer.

If a certificate is needed to be signed by an official it will only be done when it is translated into Khmer, officials are not allowed to sign papers in another language than Khmer.

So you see that English, although accepted and used in daily language, is not the language of lawyers here, laws and law matters are put in the Khmer language, but translations are provided.

Hope this helps to give you an inside of Cambodia in your field.
