Retiring in Canada

Hello everyone,

Why did you choose to retire in Canada? What are the advantages compared with your home country?

What were your main considerations when deciding to move? For example, taxes, ease of transferring your pension, etc..

Are there any specific formalities you had to go through as a retiree moving to Canada (for example, is there a particular retirement visa)?

What is Canada's healthcare like? Have you had any good or bad experiences dealing with healthcare professionals?

Do you have any tips for other retirees in Canada?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Perhaps its the other way around. Most Canadians want to move to other countries to retiree as they feel its too expensive here given the quality of healthcare they get despite the fact healthcare is free.

On the other hand, if you come from a third word country with political prosecution and oppressive government that stifles free speech and freedom of expression, where anything else is better than where they come from, then yes, Canada is the place to retie for them.

But if they could too, they'd travel to somewhere else to get healthcare treatment as the quality of service is pretty appalling including wait time.
