Moving to Bahrain.Working in Riffa living in Seef.Any help apprieciate

I am moving to Bahrain very soon.
Will be working in Riffa whilst hopefully living in Seef.

I am from the UK. These Expat.coms have been very helpful and worth reading.

I guess I'm wanting to know more about Seef as that's where I'll be living.

Is it easy to make friends?

Does the island ever feel small?

Is it a big culture shock?

Any help would be great.

Thank you

It's easy to make friends if you're social enough! People are friendly here and expats do help each other out a lot.

Island an seem small. I've never had an issue with it as my life is work and my family mainly. However it's quick and cheap to fly over to other GCC countries. Eg lots of concerts happen in Dubai. Oman is great if you love outdoorsy activities

Culture shock maybe again depends what you've been exposed to. I'd say no as it's not like Saudi where you'd be forced to cover up, not drive etc. The environment here isn't so restrictive. You'll see women driving and wearing western clothes, lots of shops from back home. You just need to be prepared for some differences that you do see here and understand the religious and cultural sensitivities.

Agreed.  There is some cultural change but I would hardly call it a shock.  This really is a friendly place, the English language runs rampant here, and you can find just about anything you need shopping-wise - from comfort food to a new computer.

I can't speak for Seef as I live in Riffa, but the island doesn't really seem small for a while, (then again being in Riffa means you're 20-30 minutes away from everything).  There are places to go and clubs and social events constantly - and like was mentioned Dubai for a weekend concert or something is easily done.

You'll enjoy it here, hopefully.  There a lot of expats, so I am sure you'll find a group that is helpful and makes you feel quite comfortable.  Best of luck with your move!

Fahima,

If you look at the main page you will see posts with a little blue thumbtack in them - those are the posts you should sort through.  They include everything from cost of living to internet company information to dress and customs to personal experiences.

I hope this little country is as kind to you all as it has been to me!  Best of luck and never be afraid to ask for help!

The island is so small that a router in Manama is enough for all people in Bahrain to connect to it.

Blahhh im kidding, it's a very nice place, people here are nice, you'll get along just fine
