Moving children to Norway

I've been working here for 15 months and want to move my children here from the UK. Do I need to register this move as the children are under 18? Or do the children need to be 18 to get an ID number? I guess I need to register this move for the population register? I asked a few Norwegian work colleagues but they are unsure as obviously they've never had to do this.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The best would for you to ask folkeregistretet:

Yes, you do have to register your children and they need an ID!
Without ID you have no access to healthcare, child benefits, school registration, etc..
