Does anyone know Bandarawela or Newaraelliya (sp?)

Monsanto has a huge sway with the Sri Lankan government. And us foreigners can no longer buy property outright in Sri Lanka. You can at best get a leasehold.

First of all, Nuwaraeliya and bandarawela are much better than before, much serene , much beautiful, much cleaner and most of all, the beauty is still there and most of the natural places are clean wild and natural. I have been to botanical gardens on last december, Much more improved, better than before well organised. I can send you photos if you are interested. (photos i took of botanical gardens)

Sri lanka still has the charming old trains and coaches. If you are interested in it, we do have one of a kind very old train locomotive If i recall my memory right, From Switzerland and It is the only Locomotive of that class in the world still in service. I have been to nuwaraeliya by train and it still has  Observation Coach, which is awesome and they have two additional luxury coaches to the same train, both Air conditioned and up to the European standard. I was lucky enough to travel on the engine as well.
















P.S :
I dont have much of a knowledge about buying a place in sri lanka as a foreigner, But it is possible for sure because there are many foreigners deciding in capital in their own apartments or houses.

Your questions about Bandarawela are now answered so I would like to give some clarifications on other questions on agricultural/chemical ares you asked in this thread and by one of other forums.

(1)    What is the statues of GMO seeds in Sri Lanka? Not available
(2)    What is the statues of Monsanto presence  in Sri Lanka?
In pesticide markets, predominantly weedicide  market
(3)    Do they infiltrate the crops? No
(4)    Is Sri Lanka importing GMO from India? Examples? No
(5)    Are their weed killers like Round up in prevalent usage? Yes
(6)    Can one get organic super foods, as well as organic grains , fruits and veges (ultimately of course growing one's own is best) Marginal
(7)     Are there chemtrails in the sky? No studies are available but up to now no major air pollution
(8)    what is the situation with logging and deforestation in Si Lanka these days?
Illegal felling happenings
(9)    Are there significant forest preservation and eco protection movements and Constitutional protections for Nature? Yes but not adequate
(10)    How is the water, is they fluoridate? Yes in Dry zone
(11)    The main water sheds I imagine are in hill stations, but are the rivers and public water sources pristine or polluted? Can not say exactly whether all the rivers are pristine or polluted, but public water for public use is purified.

* Sorry to say that you can not buy any property in Sri Lanka but you can go for a long lease up to 30 years.

Rhian, you are a jewel for sending such a complete response and thank you for the photos. It looks like the beauty of the  old days is preserved and  pristine nature still abounds.   The trains look just like they did decades ago, the wonder of the Observation cars!   This is very encouraging. It is a shame that Sri Lanka does not have an organic movement. Round uopp is the most toxic pesticide known to man (right up there with DDT and Agent Orange). The glyphosates in Round up are so toxic that they interrupt every needed biochemical process in the human body, and are fatal for unborn and young children, once they build up.   Due to political pressure and money Monsanto has been able to sell them to countries world wide, but anyone fortunate enough to read the science behind them will avoid them like the plague that they are.    I loved looking at the photos, and suspect you have many more of your beautifull country.   Gratitude, Chaska

Yeah, Rhian has done a good job to the SL forum!!! Yes still Sri Lanka remains her beauty.
I am a citizen! I am sorry I have no idea about the correct number of tourists in Sri Lanka, up to date. But when I get it, I will inform you. May be someone in this forum will tell it.
If or when you will  come in Sri Lanka, I will make you meet all the professors in our university in Agricultural , biotechnological, plantation and Horticultural areas! Then you can exchange your idea with them about foods, crops and toxins

Thank you Mal, it would be criminal for THE NATURAL SEEDS FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONs of Sri Lanka, to be contaminated and exterminated by Monsanto's pract5ices.  The use of Round Up Glyphosates is the first phase.....it is designed to kill weeds, and alter the soil, so that in time, not many years, only MonsANTOS GOEENGINEERED  ROUND UP RESTSIANT SEEDS WILL GROW.

Hi Mal,
I am an expat to the whole world. I belong to sea, sea is my home, horizon is my limit.
In simple words I am a sailor, since 20 i am travelling the world, I have been almost all the countries sea bounded including western africa other than far south america. I started my journey as a cadet on a german ship, travel around the world literally 3 and a half times, Lived in the same day for 3 times when we pass the date line.

What i believe is, as it described in arabian nights, Still Sri lanka is the Most beautiful country in the world. Nothing because of anything, just a simple explanation, There is no other country in the world where I can have an elegant life in city capital, travel 4 hours and get 13 degree Celsius dropped temperature, after another 4 hours I will be in arugambay, looking at the white sands.

Hope thats enough about me. One more thing, Unfortunately i am not sailing for more than a year now. hope to go back to where i belong soon.

I will add few more, this was in 2011, I travel around with my friend to see all the major waterfalls.










I have photos of a cemetery in badulla and haputale which we wanted to find the burial ground of one of the governors live in Badulla area known as Rogers, he killed 1400+ elephants, he was killed by a lighting, and rumours said because of the sin he did, his grave still got struck by lightning . We could not find it, but we have found the beauty of dead as well. ill add here one example so you will get me.
