Hi I am Suman. Shifting to Mauritius for Investing Shortly

Hi Everybody I am Suman from India. I will be moving to Mauritius shortly with my wife and my young daughter. I am a former commando from the Indian Army. I left the Army in 2007 and have my own business now. My Company specializes in 3 different verticals - Personal Security, Outdoor Advertising and Real Estate.(Please do advice on the potential of these verticals in Mauritius)
My Wife is a hotelier. She graduated from the Les Roches Hotel School in Switzerland.She has worked in Dubai, New York and also for leading hotels of India like Taj and Oberoi. Presently she is heading the Public Relation for an ITC Hotel. (Please do advice about any vacancy in any Hotel)
My daughter is 4 year old and very friendly. (Please do advice about the best private school in Mauritius)
I really look forward for advice on these specific verticals as also information on some new avenues which have good growth potential. Please also let us know of some good place where we can get a good house on rent .... location and price

The first things to do would be to find out about the conditions imposed on expats for investing in Mauritius and come over here on a tourist visa for a prospection visit and for a market study. :cool:

Except outdoor advertising, the two other activities are heavily regulated as regards foreign investment.  The domestic market for Personal Security is quite tight - there are many pseudo security companies to provide this type of service. Still, depending on what you're trying to offer, you might get some nice business (Corporates, VIPs, Casinos, etc.)

It could be interesting if you have international contacts or affiliations, and from there cater for the security of VIPs visiting Mauritius.

Real Estate is heavily regulated and there's not much a foreigner can benefit from. There is limited land surface which restricts offers and business.  Unless you have large scale development plans.

It will be interesting to learn more from you.

Still contemplating which vertical to peruse....but am open to new ventures too. Look forward to hear more from you.
As a starter just a simple question which will be the best place to stay on rent if we are looking for some place which is beach facing and is in a relatively quite region.

Hi,

Honestly speaking, personal security and real estate are complicated ventures. It is very difficult for foreigners to indulge in real estate activities as there are legislation preventing non-citizens from getting involved in purchasing of land or properties. You would either have to partner with a local company or request for authorization from the Prime Minister which can cost a bunch of money and time. Even through this, there is a very low probability that you will get what you want. Even in the case of a joint-venture, you will have to inject in the billions as local real estate companies already have big investment portfolios.

Personal security is heavily regulated and there are already way too many local firms engaged in the business. Either way, I don't think foreign players are allowed in this field.

That leaves you with outdoor advertising which I do not know too well. Hope someone will be able to provide you with a better insight.

As a personal advice (you can take it or ignore, up to you), if you really want to take the plunge, everything that has got to do with entertainment, partying, and nightlife will do in Mauritius as there is a huge demand for that. Cheers!

As for your question regarding renting a location, you will need an Occupation Permit to stay longer than on a tourist Visa. And to obtain an Occupation Permit, you will have to invest, or set up your own shop, or find yourself a good job.
However, this is another discussion.

u can invest in buying lands.

It has already been mentioned before...foreigners cannot buy land except for very large projects and this with special authorization from the Prime Minister's office after years of consultation. This is crystal clear on the Govt's website and land legislature.

What this guy need is a proper business plan with the required capital and a meeting with the BOI.

It's not Land acquisition Act! It's the Non-Citizens (Property Restrictions) Act.

The danger with discussion forums is that anybody can write anything.  Like always, I'll ask foreigners to really check official laws and authorities before taking any advice from non-professionals.  Some people try to give advice just to be helpful but sorry, sometimes it dangerous and really put people and their investments at risk.  People, if you are not u're, please do not venture in counseling, mostly in matters pertaining to foreign investment and relocation.

for your personal projects, you should be consulting BOI before investing in any type of real estate.

As for your wife, i'll advise you go on myjob.mu, a lot of vacancy in hotel industry actually (Sofitel etc..)

for your daughter, you've got IPS in the north or Clavis in Moka.

Thats really doesnt matter, its same like other expats moving to India or any other country without knowin the language,.. what really matters is you must know English ;)

Unless your property is in IRS or RES scheme, no foreigner can buy it.  Rental is not restricted by Law, so this is the appropriate option for foreigners.
