How do you retire in India? Same way that you can retire anywhere; just make sure that you have the appropriate visa/travel document.
From what you have written on your profile, you ought to get (if you do not already have) an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overseas_C … p_of_India . Here in Kolkata, I am acquainted with a Punjabi owner of a small restaurant. In his youth, he went to Australia, got married, renounced his Indian citizenship to get an Australian citizenship, divorced, and has come back as an OCI.
The OCI is probable the best, easiest and most appropriate travel document for you.
