I just finished with retinal Surgery. Insurance is covering it, but they had me. Sign papers that if insurance didn't pay that I would pay. I believe once in a amount that is agreed upon. Then they can't deviate but I could be wrong.

You might just ask the hospital I used bangkok hospital. I can tell you everything was first class. The room I had was bigger than my condo it was really nice. But they are pretty expensive it was 264000 For the procedure that included the room and medicine.

I had a nanny stay with me for 2 weeks.  That I had to pay for myself.

I believe that from a moral sense if complications were ran into it

would be up to the hospital to cover it such as if a mistake was

made. But they are a business so ...

Can I ask what procedure are you needing done?

Fortunately we don't have any procedures necessary at the moment.  We are still in the UK and well treated under the NHS,  but need to understand how things would work if moving to Thailand.

My wife was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma around 4-5 years ago. It may result in a hospital stay at some stage that won't be covered by private health insurance. If her organs are attacked, as can happen with the illness, it would be difficult to know how long she may spend in hospital.

The only thing I can tell you is that a hospital stay is not cheap they Charge 6400 baht per day. At least for Bangkok hospital. Is what they charge

Bangkok hospital is an expensive option. Even in Bangkok there are better/just as good and cheaper hospitals.

To name a few Sikarin Hospital, Chamillionaire Hospital.

I.read.and heard stories that patient were not treated by PRIVATE hospitals.

A cheaper option is governmental hospitals or private hospitals that accept Social Security from Thailand.

The Thai government is still working on a proposal to increase entrance with 300 thb to cover unpaid Hospital bills from tourists.

You would think that everyone would have a travel insurance but that seems not te be the case.

Thai government hospitals can also refuse you but it is likely less to happen.

A proper insurance is a must for every foreigner unless you want to leave your (Thai) family behind with a debt.. because that is the consequence as they will have to sign as well when you have no cash or insurance.

Even when your insurance has no direct connection to the hospital you will need to provide a deposit....

I would possibly have opted for that but down in phuket There are not that many to choose from. The government hospital in patong doesn't do this type of surgery.

My insurance covered it and I was told this was the best hospital. If that's true or not I don't really know but ...

It is definitely a good hospital, part of BDMS, a line of overcharging hospitals based on reputation and ealthy Thai clientele

Was not aware of your location, obviously that is a game changer, Bangkok has various good hospitals, private and governmental and private that accept Social Security card, I found a similar one in Ayutthaya when I lived there

My current location only has a governmental hospital that accepts my SS card, but I know that if my needs are bigger then what they offer they will send me

to the nearest university hospital or even sometimes private hospitals. This I have heard from other foreigner not living in Bangkok

Dental free care for SS holders for example is in Bangkok Hospital at current location..

My wife broke her ankle in an unfortunate slip on our terrace, local governmental hospital could not perform operation needed so they referred her to the Assumption Uni hospital where they performed the operation and after care, for 30 THB per visit..... as a Thai national

You need to shop around a little. Even a small boutique hospital can accept your insurance card and will send you to a private hospital or uni hospital when needed for treatment.

That's interesting I am curious about getting a social security card if it will pay for some of the health care.

The nearest hospital is a government hospital and it's competent. It's just pretty crowded and you have to wait a long time. But I had minor surgery done there and was very happy with the outcome. And it's very affordable that's why it's so crowded , but a trip to the emergency room , for example , was only 350 baht.

That card can only be obtained after a minimum of 6 months work for a Thai/foreign company

It covers ALL costs, I just pay extra for a private room and ye if you come for the first time you need to wait in a long line

For a comparing example, I pay 3.500 thb for a VIP room... compared to the Bangkok Hospital..

However when you are sent to a specialist by the general physician you don't have to wait in that line anymore.

You could set up an informal company, get the SS card end then end the company, message me for details

Check the cost for a company set up and running the company for 6 months

It will be far cheaper in the end then any insurance, plus includes existing conditions

My company has been arranging Medical Tours for foreigners coming her to Thailand for over 20 years - Plastic Surgery, Dental Surgery and Hair Surgery

I am repeatedly shocked by prospective patients that first ask How Much? and not details about the quality of the doctors

As many will know - not all Dr's in Thailand are of the same quality and some hospitals are no more than assembly lines

Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok, mentioned in the above pos,t has been great for our patients but again it comes down to the quality of your Dr

You can have the best hospital in the world and a crappy Dr and you will in turn get the expected poor outcome

The internet posts about hospitals and doctors are often false  - find someone that can steer you and has repeated personal experiences with respective doctors  Good Luck all

At one time I had checked into creating a business for the purpose of purchasing a home.

There are quite a few benefits of having  a business here. I have an idea of how to go about it But have yet to find a lawyer that I could work with. I found an accountant that knew the process , but she wanted an exorbitant amount of money.

You mentioned you could help set up a business. Are you a lawyer or accountant Or just very familiar with the process.

The other caveat is I just paid for an additional year of insurance.
