For those who have been in Mauritius for a while now, you already know what precautions need to be taken.

For newcomers, this may be a somewhat special discovery.

As a reminder, the bulletins are available in English and French etc on the radio, TV etc on the Weather website: http://metservice.intnet.mu/

Click on Cyclone > Cyclone Warning bulletin Mauritius > English

  • Take all the necessary precautions, secure your homes, doors, windows.

  • Do your shopping: batteries, torches, candles, canned food, bottle of water etc.

  • Above all, do not venture outside when the Class III (3) announcement is effective and once the cyclone has left, wait for instructions from the authorities to get out.

I remind you that for certain sectors of activity, you do not work or you do not go to your place of work from Class 3 (check with your respective companies).

There is no school from Class 2.

For those who want to follow the evolution of the cyclone or if you have advice, do not hesitate to complete this post.

Some general information about preparing for the cyclones (they are called hurricanes in the North Atlantic region) -> https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/hurricanes/index.html.  Although this guide refers to the USA federal support structure, you can replace those with the available department in Mauritius.  This is a pretty comprehensive list of what you can prepare for before, during, and after the cyclone.  Take care of your family and yourself.  Things can be repaired or replaced but loss of life cannot be.  Be safe.
