If you’re between 18 and 30, a Work Holiday Visa is easier to get than another visa category. You can stay in New Zealand for one year, but you’re not allowed to work more than 3 months for the same company. There is no problem at all to find job, New Zealand people are very used to backpackers asking jobs, as Australian people. It is a part of their culture. And some jobs are mainly taken by backpackers (fruit picking,...).

* Note: It used to be the case that working holiday visas between New Zealand and Germany were very limited in number and the German quota would be filled within the first month or two of the year. As of mid-2005, the quota for Germans wishing to travel to New Zealand on this visa (and vice versa) has been abolished, making it much easier for Germans to acquire a working holiday visa for New Zealand.
