Work and live in Brisbane on a Working Holiday Visa

Hello,

My girlfriend (Irish) and I (Canadian) will soon be moving to Australia on working holiday visas. We're currently deciding where might be the best place to start out.
We've both traveled a fair bit already ; we aren't making the trip purely as a 'vacation', but more so as a means to be together. In other words, we understand that Australia will cost us a good bit of money in the long run. We're hoping to find steadier types of jobs that might hold up for as long as possible (near the 6 month limit on such visas).
Any suggestions for finding work / are there any companies with strong reputations for foreigner-hirings?
Is Brisbane good first choice? How do apartment rentals usually work?

Any help would be much much much appreciated, as the dates of our departures grow sooner!

Regards,

Alex

Australia is slippery ice in terms of steady jobs all depending on your qualifications. Economy is fragile except for mining.

Brisbane is country side even it's a reasonable big city but with limited job opportunities - the job market is mostly oversaturated and job seekers with a local work history have preference over foreigners.

There are more jobs in the other states but all depending on qualifications and most importantly work experience in your field.

wish you luck
