Public Transport down for a few days, avoid Budapest until it's over!

Hi everyone,

Try to avoid Budapest for a few days now, the public transportation system is down due to a strike at "BKV". Subways and some trams provide a limited service, but this could change any minute.
If you come anyway, prepare to take a taxi (always call cabs by phone, avoid hailing them on the street.)

The whole thing should be over by next week.
Does not happen often, definitely more rare than in France for example :-)

Strike forecast for today:

Bus and tram lines are mostly out of service.
Subways, trains, commuter trains (HEV), and the silly red electric buses provide good coverage of the inner city. The distances are not horribly large to walk, it's just a little cold today. Dress warm, ditch the high heels :-)

I wouldn't venture into predicting the duration, but these things never last longer than a week. (we have general elections this spring, so don't bet on this.)

Good idea

Not much change, some buses and trams do operate, and the city is pretty calm and fully functional. People got over the initial shock, and adapted successfully.
I'll keep you posted :-)

No agreement before the weekend, so there's no hope for a solution before Monday.

Hi all,

It's finally over, everything is back to normal since Monday.

Told you it's usually over within a week :-)

Could someone please archive this topic? Thank you.
