Getting married in Brunei

Hi all,

We invite all the ones who got married in Brunei or who are about to get married in Brunei to participate in this thread smile

What are the formalities to get married in Brunei? Is it the same for a couple of foreigners of for a mixed couple (between a foreigner and a native of Brunei)?

Are the procedures complicated?

How long does it take to carry out all the formalities?

Thank you in advance for participating,

Armand

Re: Getting married in Brunei

I have just left the High Commission of Canada, literally, with a statement in Lieu of a Certificate of No Impediment to marry. If you are not Bruneian, you must have this to marry. I needed to show my birth certificate, passport, divorce papers (all originals) and have a brief chat with the Commissioner.  My fiancé is from England; he is required to post  his intention to marry me in the local paper for 21 days,  have a notary provide an affidavit on his behalf to the UK Embassy. Strange considering he is new to Brunei and no one knows him, so why would anyone have objections?  A local paper back home would make more sense but this is the requirement here.  it's not simple - Gretna Green in Scotland is looking better all the time!
