Re: New in expat and in saudi
thank you,
what i mean difficult here because in our country we can go outside alone we can walk around we can go to the mall.but here before you can go to one place to another you need someone to drive you or to be with you.if you dont have a car for women like me we stay in our house...

I think that's pretty obvious .. but oh yes, you're not here. But you'll find out if/when you do get here.

Yes, yes, that's true.. I'm trying to know what exact difficulties do ppl face.. And how can they overcome these. I'm sure i'll face similar hurdles in a month's time..

Confusion!!! Sorry !!
Joyce, I know you're here, I was talking to Dave. And no need to call me 'sir' .. you may just call me 'your highness'
(joking, BTW).
Dave, you'll have it easier than a woman here. But just read all the threads--we're always discussing life in KSA, the in's and out's (mostly out's
).
Best of luck to all!

Well, that defines KSA.. I've read your informative blogs / posts on getting the visas / iqamas to getting a driving licence.. From visiting a neighbouring country to paying your medical bills.. I weighed the pros and cons about life in the kingdom, before making the big decision. I just hope that government policies and moods dont change suddenly in adverse manner..

Yes it is slightly better. The people staying inside are mostly of the western countries and also most of the religious sanctions are not applicable once inside the compound.

You'll be fine but I would advise you to have a *goal* here. In other words, a sum of money you want to save or a number of years you will spend or career experience, for example. The goal keeps you focused and going if things get miserable for you. And when you reach the goal, you can re-evaluate. You can leave .. or formulate a new goal and stay.
If you don't reach the goal, there's no shame in that.
KSA has been an experience I will never, ever regret.
Cheers!

Parties ?????
Living in Western Compounds will allow you to continue your lifestyle as it is.. You can have a pleasant social life in there..
Outside the Compound, you need to be a little conservative I guess..
Good luck to you..

Actually, TLL is the guy with the good *hard* information. Of course, being a guy--and a tech guy, at that!--he gets around a lot more than I do
