Italian Drivers licence?

Wondering who has attempted this and maybe succeeded smile.
I understand that the written test is only given in Italian now.
I have downloaded WebPatente which has example tests for all the possible questions and I am going through it now (the wording is very tricky and some of the logic is weird - for an americano).
I am also taking Italian language lessons but that is going slowly and I just don't get enough practice but with time it should improve.

I know I have a year to get it. I officially got here in gennaio 2012 and I still don't have my Carta di I'dentita (I think that is required) but I do have my Permesso di Soggiorno.

Anyway, any pointers would be much appreciated.

Gary
