Rent a flat or a house in Namibia

Finding a place to live is a priority when settling in Namibia. Your experience will be of a great help for the members who want to settle in Namibia.

Therefore, we have prepared some questions for you:

Which kinds of accommodation are available in Namibia?

Is it hard to find a flat or a house for rent in Namibia?

How to find a home in Namibia: classifieds, real estate portals, real estate agencies?

How much is the rental for a house, an apartment?

What are the formalities or the required documents for renting an accommodation?

Which advice would you give?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Re: Rent a flat or a house in Namibia

There are all kinds of accomodation available in namibia (Windhoek): Hotels, guest houses, apartments, flats, camping sites, and houses.

To some extent yes, it is hard to find accomodation if you intend to spend bellow the average price and if you would like to live in the town center, uptown, downtown.

Housing and rental prices varies a lot. Most of the accomodation are rented unfurnished and the price depends on the number of rooms, bathrooms, area, if the house has things like swimming pool, barbecue space etc. You can find the prices and more info. About the renting here www.classifieds.na

Fortunately you don't need much to rent. All you need is a copy of your passport, and your signature on the contract, and pay damage deposit.

My advice is to rent in areas as close to town as possible. Or rent in 'safe areas' such as pioneerspark, academia, hochland park, eros, klein windhoek, and olympia.
Read the contract carefully. Some contracts state that if you move out before the lease period the landlord shall keep the damage deposit.

Damage deposit : an amount of money that you pay before occupying the premises in case you damage the property it will be repaired with this money.
