what i understand that you need to see the compound from inside,right? of course you can go and ask the management to enter and see if there is available units there.

of course car driving is illegal for all females whatever nationality, age or even they have licensee or not.It is completely prohibited.

No, Ayk... I'll be working with JKS and they're giving me accommodation there...I visited Sharbatly's website and can't imagine how I'll be moving inside the place with no car? Is there any transportation there? How much will it cost?

Hi Adel,

Don't worry, on the compound I am told that there are electric vehicles that u can use, (yes, even a woman.... )
Also, JKS bus us into the school and back each day, and app there are buses from Sharbatly into Jeddah, as well as taking you to the beach also. I will be there next week, so will try to send you pictures... How are things going?

Hi,
As Angela has taken the job offer at JKS (Primary stage!!) then our two children will be coming with us, so lots of paperwork to do to get them over for September. We where not accepting an offer that meant them needing to stay in the UK until November time when their visas where sorted after our arrival. So school have been great and sorted my paperwork early in the UK, to enable me to travel out on Saturday for 2-3 weeks to sort out my residency/work visas so that I can then apply for the kids to be able to travel with us in late August...

Its really good how its worked out as it means that I get to meet my dept and take home stuff to prep so we can both hit the ground running in September.

On a personal front it means I get to 'see' both the school and the housing first hand! So, as you can guess I have been instructed to take lots of photos and ask lots of questions... I will post the photos and send you the link if you wish and if you have anything that you would like me to ask, then just ask away and I will do my best!

Right, better sign off as today is the day when I take Angela for last years birthday present... to the 'Take That' concert

I'm glad Angela accepted the job...Did she work as a teacher before? I'm sure she'll find her way out...I think it's better to move there together, it'll be much easier to have your family around you without needing to worry about how things are going back home...
Are we paying the utilities? Is it mentioned in contract? Can you check if I am allowed to drive the electric cars without having a driving license? How much will it cost me?...Sharbatly looks fancy but I read a lot of comments saying that the Arabian homes was better...not sure what's the difference or what's wrong with sharbatly :S just a bit confused with a lot of paper work to finish...I would sure appreciate it if you send me the link to the posted photos.

Yes, far happier, there is a lot more to sort but worth the hassle to stay together
I dont know if its in the contract, but I was told when I asked that yes Utilities are included, except for air con, £20 monthly was the figure I was quoted...

Electric Golf buggies are the way around the site, (again, I was told) and by the same person, no license necessary, suppose that none exists for a Golf Buggy?

Yes, Arabian homes, I have read similar blogs , all I can say is that I will be very glad to take a good look myself... I will post photos so you can make up your own mind, Head of Department told me that they are currently building a new development of bungalows and villas just for JKS staff! so you should be ok there, apparently they are building them around a new pool area also, she was a bit upset that she is leaving before getting the chance to move into them...

Hope some of that helps, I will be able to tell you more when I have been and seen firsthand. Due to arrive on Saturday night, at my swish hotel!! don't know why I can't stay at Sharbatly would rather see the site, but they say no room. So, I will just have to 'manage' at the 5* Hotel they are putting me up at!!!

Thanks for the information ...I'm travelling back home in July and can't stop thinking of all the things I have to finish in such short time...I'm still working here and finishing late June...It's been a long year...and I feel I'll have no time to take a break!! Villas around the pool would be great Just the view of it would be nice ... Are you taking any winter clothes for winter in Jeddah? I heard it gets cold sometimes...but not sure...I just don't want to carry over weight for nothing...I think also we can buy stuff from there...
I just can't concentrate and I feel sleepy with all that work and reports... You guys are done with the academic year?

Hi, I'm also moving to Sharbatly in August and I'm going to be working at Jeddah Knowledge as well.  I'd also love to see any photo's of Sharbatly too, it may be what keeps me smiling for the last few weeks of school.

I too am worried about the housing situation..we have 2 teenagers coming over with us and if they are not happy, our lives will be hell....my son needs his X box and my daughter needs her music..lol

Al Adel / Patricka - Which year group will you be teaching? I will be a homeroom teacher in PYP and as it stands I know absolutely zero about the role. I am currently a 11 - 18 year old secondary school teacher in the UK, so I am expecting some huge culture shock c- not just in the country, but in teaching too!

I am sure there will be plenty of time to socialise when we arrive.. looking forward to meeting you both.

Hope all is well your end...I'm not sure we can go out of the compound wearing anything but abbaya. I heard in Jeddah you need no hair cover and abbayas could be different colors than black but I'm not sure about what other colors exactly...I'm fine with whatever suits the culture...I want to save myself the hassle...and it's not a problem for me...
I'll be teaching PYP too but they didn't confirm which year group yet...We'll know soon...Well, I think it will be more work than teaching high school...you'll need to be more creative and patient...they're kids and ones whose mother tongue isn't English...It also depends on what materials are already available at school...They said the class has about 20 students I guess...that's a lot...they never mentioned if we'll have TAs to help us out and I never asked...
I am too worried too...Sharbatly looks great on the web...but is it for real and even if it is...What kind of accommodations will we get as teacher :S...
What makes me kind of relaxed was that you guys changed your plan and decided to relocate with Roy...which is a huge step...so I'm kind of thinking it's worth it or you've never been apart confused again...

Hi Al Adel

Roy has spent a few day there and from what he has discovered, I am sure we are going to be fine. The Management are very accommodating and are bending over backwards to be welcoming and helpful. What I do  know is that we will all be getting a new build villa, and because we will have our teenagers with us, they are offering us a double villa - I can see lots of weekend BBQ's and parties looming with all the extra space lol!

I be honest Al Adel, I am really looking forward to the whole experience now that Roy has sent home this information. I spoke to the head of primary via email today and she informed me that I will be getting a Grade 2 class - this is a huge shock as my training and experience is for 11 - 18 years! Anyhow, I'm open for the challenge..

The photos of the compound on the website are accurate, JKS staff mostly all have new villa's but even the "old" villa's are good. The compound itself is fantastic, swimming pools, supermarket, restaurant that delivers.

Your employer will do your exit visas for you. But just getting hold of your passport on time can be tricky business. Getting in and out of country has never been an issue for me or anyone else I know. Like I say it's just that they dont rush with finding passports. I can't imagine it is easy to have visitors as a single female. Everyone I know has come in on the husbands sponsorship. Saudi is a law unto itself so you'll come to realise that is a stupid question Basically just wear your abaya and carry a scarf - dont get caught withsingle guys and you'll pretty much be ok.

I agree with Louise.Welge, that your employer will do your exit visa. However it will depend on the category of the profession on your Iqama, whether you can get a single entry/exit visa or the multiple entry/exit visa.

You can def have female family members come over, don't really know about friends. I have seen frends come over but they were as an MF couples and the person who sponsored them was a diplomat. Who you are and who you know makes a big difference out here. Maybe someone else knows a bit more

Well, I have also just arrived myself, although i am not female, i do know what the rules are reagrding females driving in Saudi, it is forbidden aparently.....

However, from what i gather, within the compounds females do drive, i guess.... but if you want to leave the compound, you will need to hire a driver to take you around.

What i dont know for sure is whether, these hired drivers are from a specific agency, because it is also forbidden to drive in a vehicle with a male unless he is a relative.

so how it works in this case i am not sure, but i know someone who may shed a little more light on the subject, will confer with him and update you.
