Has anyone got any recommendations for going to see a movie? Is it best to book early, is there a multiplex near other entertainment, are there cinemas that are old or plain crappy and best avoided, and is going to an evening showing a guarantee there won't be hoards of kids?

There's a brane new one in Seef Muharraq called NOVO. It's one of those luxury ones with reclining seats. About 8 BD per person i think.
If you want to go to the usual one, City Center. Check the website below. Cinema: 20,19 ,1, 2 are larger ones with nice surround system.

City Center is one of the largest shopping centers in Bahrain, and all kinds of decent entertainments can be found there.
