Does anyone have any thoughts on settling in Punta Cana. We are looking to settle somewhere that has the amenities of home(Toronto) but gives us the freedom to enjoy and integrate with the local culture. We are interested in buying a new build home with a modern floor plan which is what is limiting us to this area. Any suggestions or recommendations? Is there a different area on the island that can accommodate? Safety, amenities, highest internet speed available is about everything we are looking for.

Jeff before you settle on the PC area and before you build or buy anything you should explore some other places as well.

PC is a very tourist area so prices will be much higher and no real feel for the DR.

We settled here on the north coast 9+ years ago. Built a very nice modern villa and have all we need as far as comfort are concerned. This area is a good mix of local, tourist and a large Expat community. Lots to see and do.

There are other areas like la Romana, the Samana area and such. Explore some.

Jeff Punta Cana will give you many of the amenities you are looking for but at the expense of local culture. There is not much of local culture there, it is all geared around expats and tourism.

All that being said, it may in fact be right for you. The only way to know is to check it out and other areas as well.
