Stove propane setup

Hi! I have been living in CR for a little over a year and would love to ship over my propane Viking stove from California. The problem is, I don't want to send it all this way without knowing if and how it can connect to the portable propane tanks that are common here. Does anyone have experience with this, or know someone that does? I would love to speak with a specialist here but just don't know where to find one.

Almost all of the propane tanks are now the same as you are used to.  There are very few of the older style in service.  If you are exchanging your own just make sure of the connection.  Many people in our community have their name stenciled on their tanks and just bring them in for refilling and then pick them up a few days later.  We have two 100# tanks and they have the same hookups as we had in Canada.  We have a service that exchanges them and they always come with the proper fitting.  The one thing that is not the same as you would be used to is the hydro static testing.

Thanks! Is hydro static testing something that I would do or is it done when the company refills the tanks? I'm already used to swapping tanks here with my existing Mabe stove, I'm just trying to find information about any pitfalls from anyone that has brought or bought a Viking range here.

You can get the propane tank that is used for BBQ grills at PriceSmart for about 18,000 colones. It cost about 7,500 colones to fill it at your local gas supplier. You have to drop it off and they will fill it and return your same tank to you in a couple of days.

In Canada the tanks are considered a pressure vessel and must be hydro tested every ten years.  Down here there is no such thing so that is why some of the people in our community buy a new tank and stencil their name on it.  That way they know its age and usage background.  We went the 100# route because we BBQ a lot, cook with propane and our dryer has been converted to propane.  A 100# tank lasts 8-9 months and a replacement is delivered to our door for 27,000 colones.

Appreciate the help!

I beg to differ,  I just had my argon tank hydro tested for the second time.
